Introducing our Registered CQC Manager, Shona White

Having recently joined the team at Harrison Associates, Shona helps make us the first choice for solicitors, insurance companies and individuals requiring high-quality expert witness, case management and rehabilitation services.

Thanks to Shona, we’re able to maintain our values by complying with all agreed standards and timeframes, ensuring that any work we undertake reaches the highest possible standard.

So, what better way to introduce Shona than by sitting down for an introduction. Let’s see how we got on.

Hi Shona, could you start off by letting us know how long you’ve been working with Harrison Associates?

I started working for Harrison Associates in early December 2021.

And a little about your previous experience in the industry?

My background and experience; I have worked in domiciliary care since 2014. I have worked my way from a Health and Social Care Worker to the Team Leader, and then progressed into office-based roles where I first became a Registered CQC Manager in May 2020, leading me to the case management industry and Harrison Associates.

Super, thank you Shona. Did you always know you wanted to go down the care route for your career?

During school and education, I always wanted to work with animals. It was only when I started to care for a relative who unfortunately went into residential care due to their own safety, I realised that I had a passion for the care industry, to help and maintain a safe home environment for those who live alone.

As Care Workers, we promote independence at home for those with all capabilities, which really resonated with me.

What made you want to join Harrison Associates?

When I was approached about the role, I immediately recognised the wider opportunities this role presented to me. I very much enjoyed working in the domiciliary care environment, however, the ability to improve and push the personal care agenda for those who sustained life-changing injuries and the immediate improvements and positive impact that can be achieved, sounded really exciting to me. It pushes me to do better and develop personally, but also help and support case managers working with our clients.

We can certainly see that you’ve made a positive change since joining our team, we’re really lucky to have you. So, tell us, what does your typical day look like as our Registered CQC Manager?

My day-to-day activities are never the same, which is a common occurrence throughout the care sector, but on a week-to-week basis, I will revisit similar tasks to complete. Having new recruits to enrol for client-specific care requirements, maintaining care teams’ compliance, maintaining care plans and risk assessments; working with solicitors, legal parties, health and local authorities to ensure the safety of our clients is met in line with CQC legislation and regulations.

You have some really great experience in regulatory management. Do you feel as though this has helped you bring new perspectives to Harrison Associates?

I believe I have brought a fresh perspective to the care side of Harrison Associates, but I also think there is always room for development and improvement. At Harrison Associates, case management, care and rehabilitation all go hand-in-hand with one another. We promote a 360-approach encompassing all needs of all clients, whilst working in a person-centred way to develop a holistic approach to the individual as a whole rather than just their disability. As a team, we strive to achieve together. I am excited about the progress we have made so far and the new projects underway.

Are there any areas of your job you really enjoy?

The best thing about my role is that I know our clients are receiving the right care and support for them, the care that they want, as opposed to what assessments they need. Together we promote their independence and assist with their rehabilitation to live their lives, working together on their personal and health-related goals to achieve the best possible outcome.

Throughout your time with us so far, have you had any standout moments that have made you think “wow, we’ve done a really great job here”?

Even though my time with Harrison Associates hasn’t been longstanding, there have been many “wow” moments. The biggest moment has been working alongside a case manager whose client has complex care needs, we have worked with many healthcare professionals in building relationships to ensure that they receive the safest, best possible care and set out desired outcomes, all of which are yet to be achieved so far. Once all these targets have been met, this will be the one that I remember ongoing. The level of what has been accomplished in the planning is already an incredible achievement.

And finally, what do you think makes Harrison Associates different, is there a particular way we do things that you’ve not seen anyone else offer?

Throughout my recruitment process with Harrison Associates, I found that they were greatly unique in practice and multicultural in every way, which has built a foundation of a strong working environment which is great to be a part of.

Harrison Associates have a great team and support network internally which has a big influence on everyone to be their best in their own specialist areas. Using BABICM as a baseline of principles, Harrison Associates also provides training programmes for us as individuals to thrive within our sector.
