Biography Ravina Samrai is an Advanced Occupational Therapist and Expert Witness with over fifteen years of NHS experience, specialising in adult rehabilitation, intermediate care and discharge-to-assess (D2A) pathways. Her practice is centred on complex, multi-factorial presentations, with particular expertise in older adults with frailty, neurological conditions and cognitive impairment, providing a strong foundation for the assessment of care, rehabilitation and long-term functional need. Ravina brings extensive experience in functional assessment following hospital admission, with a focus on safe discharge planning, enablement and sustainable community-based care. She has worked with individuals presenting with conditions including stroke, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, fluctuating mobility and complex post-acute medical decline, alongside cases involving long COVID, falls risk and behavioural factors impacting function. Her approach is grounded in detailed clinical reasoning, balancing independence, risk and practical delivery of care. Her clinical practice includes comprehensive holistic assessments of activities of daily living, mobility, cognition and environmental safety, including Mental Capacity Assessments and complex manual handling risk. She has significant expertise in specialist equipment provision, including hoists, seating, wheelchairs and bathing systems, and in coordinating minor and major housing adaptations in collaboration with social care services. She is also experienced in determining appropriate care levels, including single versus double-handed care and transitions to 24-hour care environments. Ravina has held leadership roles within NHS services, including a Band 7 Clinical Lead secondment, where she led multidisciplinary teams, implemented competency frameworks and contributed to service improvement initiatives focused on discharge efficiency and reducing length of stay. Her leadership experience provides a clear understanding of care delivery within pressured health systems and the practical realities of rehabilitation pathways. Fully trained in the Civil Procedure Rules, Ravina provides independent expert evidence across both claimant and defendant instructions. Her reports are objective, clinically grounded and focused on delivering clear, reasoned opinions to assist the Court in determining matters of care, rehabilitation and long-term functional outcomes in adult rehabilitation and community-based cases.
