Paediatric Case Management: Supporting Children, Families and Legal Teams

Posted by Dilara Rogers

5 September 2026
Rosy Edwards

Paediatric case management requires a different approach from adult case management. Children’s needs change as they grow, and rehabilitation planning often has to consider family life, education, therapy, development, safeguarding, transition planning and long-term support.

This clinical training session is designed to help solicitors and legal teams understand the role of the paediatric case manager, how children and families may be supported after serious injury or clinical negligence, and how case management evidence can assist with rehabilitation planning and future needs.

Delivered by: Rosy Edwards, Paediatric Case Manager

What the session covers

The session provides a practical introduction to paediatric case management and the issues that commonly arise when working with children, young people and families.

It explores how a paediatric case manager coordinates therapy, education, family support and multidisciplinary input, and how children’s needs may evolve over time. The session can also consider how case management supports rehabilitation, evidence gathering and long-term planning in complex paediatric cases.

This session can cover

  • The role of the paediatric case manager
  • How paediatric case management differs from adult case management
  • Working with children, young people and families
  • Therapy coordination and MDT working
  • Education and school liaison
  • Family support and practical planning
  • Safeguarding-aware practice
  • Changing needs over time
  • Transition planning
  • How case management evidence supports legal teams

Why this matters for solicitors

In paediatric cases, the legal and clinical picture may change significantly over time. A child’s needs may develop as they grow, move through education, engage with therapy, approach adolescence or transition into adult services.

For solicitors, understanding paediatric case management can support better instructions, clearer questions and a more informed approach to rehabilitation, care, education, family support and future provision.
